This is the timeline of important historical events that led to the current world... I'm thinking about setting the year aroun 415 or so, but I dunno...
Time Line*
*About the Dates: The year the Gaians created a colony on Planet Orrin was dated the year Zero. Every Earth year since then was counted as Galaxy Time, first by the Gaians, then Terrans, and finally the Federation who brought it to the Alliance... and as such made it Intergalactic Time... (basically an easy way for the player to keep time in relative terms... hours, minutes, etc equal Earth time...) Dates elsewhere marked PtO are short for Previous to Orrin.
The Year 0: The Gaians created a colony on Planet Orrin. It was a small mining colony that did not encroach on any other systems. It was also the first use of Theoretical Light-Speed Travel by the Human race.
100-146: Many Gaian probes searched the stars looking for minerals and organic matter of interest.
147: The Gaian Probe vessel, Anubis VII, discovered several Organic Pods. In an effort to save themselves the Anubis tried to return to Earth. However, they passed very near a hidden Spectre Base in the Xarthuran System and the Spectres killed those infected, before they healed the others and refueled their ship to send them on their way to Earth.
150: The Gaians opened formal communication channels with the Spectres and learned about the Organics, Errins, Moro, Kon, and Factory. Many Gaians planned to learn more about the cultures for science and sociological research, but the Gaian government saw it as a chance to gather intelligence on their future foes.
176: The Gaians were settling on Benin and accidentally awoke the Symbiotes... Several scientists were consumed...
225: The Gaian government made official contact with the Chandorins. The same year the two groups back door allied to destroy the other races. However, the Spectres brought in their old allies, the Kadaj and the Toros. The Spectres began openly utilizing their control over worm holes and temporal displacement for their defense... Also, the Gaia Starport was opened on Earth's moon.
240: The Gaians brought a live Spectre to the science facility on the Gaia Starport and began running secret tests. The Dorins began accepting Human expatriates as members. The Moro, Kon, and Factory joined the War.
245: When the Spectre in the Gaia Lab died, the Emperor of Gaia ordered the beginning of the Genetic Manipulation Series using all the DNA they collected from the Organics.
247: After two years of terrible war losses and complete failure with the GMS the Gaians began trying to hybridize in the power and natural intellect (let alone supernatural powers) of other races.
252: Upon determining which races were most compatible the Gaians began work on the Imperial Exterminators to take out the Spectres, using the temporal powers and Toros power. The Toros pulled out of the War the same year.
260: The first batch of Imperial Exterminators came to fruition and were put on the front lines. The Chandorins sustained considerable casualties and losses so they recalled several troops to their border asteroids.
275: The Spectre self-destructed their homeworld in an effort to keep the power of worm hole technology from the Gaians. Many Gaians left their home faction in retaliation and formed the Federation. Another plague of Organics struck several Gaian strongholds which formerly belonged to the Toros.
300: The Imperial Exterminators rebelled and joined the Federation or died trying. The last of the Spectres died out (theoretically). The Gaians raised their military spending to record levels resulting in the fore-bearers of the Depression.
305: The War ended in a stalemate. The Gaian purists were isolated on Earth, but they then disallowed Alien contact of their own free will, including those soldiers, miners, and other Humans or Half-Humans who were left off planet by January 25th, 306. Those who held a grudge against the Federation for betraying the Gaians formed the Terrans.
306: The Alliance is formed, including the Federation, Kadaj, Moro, Kon, and Factory. They forced the Gaians to open Gaia Starport as a Free Trade Bazaar to protect the Gaian economy. The Terrans began building free floating Space Stations rather than live on Non-Earthen soil.
307: Some Humans joined a handful of Toros expatriates to form the Monks of Korin. The Errins joined the Alliance after much deliberation on their part. Organic activity began to increase drastically across all Galaxies.
315: The Chandorins finally signed the treaty with the Alliance after realizing they needed aid when an Organic packed meteorite struck one of their tertiary worlds.
375: The end of the Depression. Most of the Imperial Exterminators died out or began taking a nutrient compound created by the Dorin to preserve them.
400: The appearance of the Worm.
